Select a type. The question is added and its editor opens.
Every type is explained in Question types.
The question editor
Section titled “The question editor”Selecting a question card opens its editor. The tabs depend on the question type:
| Tab | Shown for | Contains |
|---|---|---|
| Content | Every type | The question text and everything respondents see |
| Validation | Every type except Table Grid and Hidden field | Rules the answer must follow |
| Appearance | Survey types (NPS, CSAT, CES, Likert, Ranking) | Scale range and labels |
| Advanced | Every type | Logic, calculations, alerts, documents, scoring |
| Preview | Every type except Hidden field | “This is exactly how people filling the form will see this question.” |
Content tab
Section titled “Content tab”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Field label | The question itself (“Type your question”). Required. The publish check warns about questions with no text. Select Insert answer to quote an earlier answer or a variable in the label, for example “Thanks, {name}. Which session…”. |
| Description | Extra instructions shown under the label, above the field. Optional. |
| Placeholder | Hint text inside an empty field, for example you@company.com. It disappears when the respondent types and is never saved as an answer. |
| Default value | Pre-filled when the form loads. The respondent can change it. A Fill from another question rule overrides it. |
| Options | For Dropdown, Radio Buttons, Checkboxes, Multi-Select and Ranking. Each option has a label (what people see) and a value (what’s stored). The value is made from the label automatically. Add option adds one. Bulk import (CSV) loads many from a spreadsheet. See Options and bulk import. |
| Type-specific settings | For example Default country and Allowed countries on Phone, Accepted file types on File Upload, or Statements on Likert. Listed on each question type’s page. |
| Image or video | Add an image or video shows a picture or a YouTube/Vimeo video with the question. See Images and video on questions. |
Validation tab
Section titled “Validation tab”Limits what counts as a valid answer. Pick a rule from Add a rule (or a Quick add chip), set its value, and optionally change the Error message. If there are no rules, “No rules yet — any answer is accepted.”
Also here:
- Unique submission value rejects an answer that an earlier response already used, such as an employee ID or ticket number. It’s only checked when the respondent enters a value.
- Minimum and Maximum (shown as No minimum / No maximum when empty) for length or value.
All rules, which question types offer them, and the default messages are in Validation.
Appearance tab (survey questions)
Section titled “Appearance tab (survey questions)”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Scale minimum / Scale maximum | The range of the scale. |
| Minimum label / Maximum label | Words at each end, for example Not at all likely and Extremely likely. |
| Offer “Not applicable” | Adds an N/A choice that’s left out of scoring. |
| Soft required | If skipped, the respondent is prompted but can still continue. |
| Randomize choices per response | Each person sees the items in a different order, which reduces order bias. |
| Maximum items to rank / Require ranking every item | Ranking only. Leave the maximum empty to allow ranking every item. |
Advanced tab
Section titled “Advanced tab”Each of these opens its own editor. When one is set, it’s summarised on the question card.

- Check the Preview (First 5 rows), then confirm.
Support documents
Section titled “Support documents”Attach a document adds reference material next to a question, for example a sample photo, a policy or eligibility rules. Select Add Document, then:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Display Label | The link text respondents see, for example Guidelines. Required. |
