Layout, steps and page logic

Open Layout and steps from Form setup → Structure on the canvas, or from Settings.

OptionWhat respondents getUse for
Single page“All fields on one scrollable page”Short forms, up to about 10 questions
Multi-step“Split fields into guided steps” with progressLong applications, onboarding and anything with natural sections
OptionWhat respondents get
Classic“All questions on a page together”
One at a time“A question per screen, keyboard-friendly”

One at a time feels like a conversation and works well on phones. Respondents press Enter to continue, can press a letter key (A, B, C…) to pick a choice, and see a progress bar.

OptionLooks like
Vertical“Narrow, centered card”. The classic form look.
Horizontal“Full width, fields side by side”. Good for data-entry forms with many short fields.

Combine with each question’s Field width (100%, 50%, 33%) to put fields on one line.

StyleShows
ProgressA segmented bar
StepsNumbered circles with step titles
Minimal“Step 1 of 3” text
  • Allow going back: “Respondents can return to previous steps.” Turn off when earlier answers must be final.
  • Lock step after confirming (per step): “Respondents confirm before advancing and cannot edit this step afterwards.” Use it for declarations or a payment step.

Each step is checked before moving on: required questions and validation rules on that step must pass first.

  1. Choose Multi-step.
  2. Select Add step for each section. Give it a title and an optional Step description (optional).
  3. Under Fields in this step, tick the questions that belong to it.
  4. Reorder with Move step up / Move step down. Remove one with Delete step. Its questions become unassigned.

Questions on no step are listed under Unassigned on the canvas and aren’t shown to respondents. The publish check warns you about them.

Page logic decides where a respondent goes after a page, based on their answers. Use it to skip sections that don’t apply, or end the form early.

  1. On a step, select Add page logic.
  2. After this page, add a rule: conditions, then Go to a later page, Finish the form, or a specific ending.
  3. Add more rules if needed. They’re checked top to bottom, and the first that matches wins.
  4. Set Otherwise go to for when no rule matches. By default, that’s the next page.

Rules only go forward, so a form can’t loop. The server follows the same path, and answers on pages a respondent skipped aren’t accepted.

A job application:

  1. About you → if Experienced? equals No, Go to Education. Otherwise go to Work history.
  2. Work history
  3. Education → if Age is less than 18, Finish the form with the Not eligible ending.
  4. Documents
