Conditional logic

Logic makes a form react to answers. There are four tools, all in a question’s Advanced tab:

ToolDoesExample
Condition VisibilityShows a question only when conditions matchShow Company name only when Employment is Employed
Fill from another questionFills in, filters or locks a question based on othersCity options depend on State
Show a message whenShows an alert while people fill in the formWarn when Age is under 18
Page logicJumps between stepsSkip the Spouse details page when Married is No. See Layout & steps.

All logic tools use the same condition builder: Question, Comparison, Value.

ComparisonTrue when the answer…
equals / not equalsis / isn’t exactly the value
contains / does not containincludes / doesn’t include the text (or, for Checkboxes, the option)
is empty / is not emptywasn’t answered / was answered
greater than / less thanis more / less than the number
≥ (gte) / ≤ (lte)is at least / at most the number
is one of / is not one ofmatches any / none of several values

Choose whether ALL conditions must match (AND) or ANY of them (OR). For more complex logic, select Add group to nest a group with its own ALL/ANY. For example:

Show Visa details when Country is not India AND (Purpose equals Work OR Stay length greater than 90)

  1. Open the question, then Advanced → Condition Visibility.
  2. Select Add first condition and build the rule.
  3. Select Apply visibility.

The question is hidden until its conditions match. Hidden questions:

  • aren’t required, even if marked Required, while hidden.
  • aren’t submitted. If a respondent fills one in and then changes an earlier answer so it hides, that answer is dropped.
  • are checked on the server too, so the rule can’t be bypassed.

On the canvas the card shows Only shown when ….

Advanced → Fill from another question opens Field linking, with three tabs. Changes apply when you select Save Changes.

Settings that depend on one “parent” question. Select the parent first.

SettingWhat it does
Enable Cascading Options“Filter which options are available based on the parent selection.” For each parent option, choose which of this question’s options appear. Example: State → City.
Global DefaultsMin Default and Max Default for numbers or dates.
Option OverridesA different Min Override / Max Override for each parent option. Example: Ticket type = Student allows 1–2 tickets, Group allows 5–20.

Set this question’s answer when conditions match. Select Add Rule, build the Trigger Conditions, then Then set this field to… using an Auto-fill Mode:

ModeWhat it does
Enter valueFills in a fixed value you type.
Copy from fieldCopies another question’s current answer. Example: Billing address copies Shipping address when Same as shipping is ticked.

A rule can also limit Available Options and Limit Min / Limit Max while it matches. Respondents can still change an auto-filled answer unless you also disable the question.

Make the question required or disabled when conditions match. Choose the Action Type (Make Field Required or Disable Field) and whether matching should Enable (Apply Action) or Disable (Remove Action).

Example: make GST number required when Customer type equals Business.

Advanced → Show a message when opens Custom alerts: messages that appear while respondents fill in the form.

  1. Select Add first alert.
  2. Choose the Type: Info, Warning, Error or Success.
  3. Write the Message.
  4. Under Show this alert when…, add conditions and choose ALL conditions match (AND) or ANY condition matches (OR).
  5. Select Apply alerts.

Alerts guide people but don’t block submission. To block, use a validation rule or make the question required.

Examples:

  • Warning when Years of experience is less than 2: “This role usually needs 2+ years. You can still apply.”
  • Info when Delivery equals Express: “Express delivery costs ₹150 extra.”
  • Success when Coupon is not empty: “Coupon applied at checkout.”
