Saving, undo and version history

There is no Save button. About a second after you stop changing something, the builder saves your draft. The status next to the form name tells you where things stand:

StatusMeaning
All changes savedThe draft is saved. The form hasn’t been published.
PublishedThe live form matches what you see in the builder.
Published · unpublished changesYour edits are saved, but respondents still see the last published version. Select Publish to make them live.
Saving…A save is in progress.
Try saving againThe last save failed, usually because the connection dropped. Select it to retry. Don’t close the tab until it succeeds.
  • Undo: the arrow in the header, or Ctrl Z (Windows) / ⌘ Z (Mac).
  • Redo: the forward arrow, or Ctrl Shift Z / ⌘ Shift Z. Ctrl Y also works on Windows.

Typing in one box counts as a single step, so one undo reverts the whole edit rather than one letter. Undo history lasts until you leave the builder. To go back further, use version history.

Select Version history in the header. “Versions are saved when you publish, before AI edits and restores, and whenever you save one here.”

Before a big change, save a checkpoint:

  1. Open Version history.
  2. Add a Note (optional) such as Before redesigning step 2.
  3. Save the version.
  1. Open Version history and choose a version. You see what restoring it would change:
    • Brings back: questions in that version that aren’t in the form now.
    • Removes: questions in the form now that the version doesn’t have.
    • Changes: questions that exist in both but differ.
    • Changes form settings.: settings differ too.
    • “Nothing — it matches the saved form.” means there’s no difference.
  2. Use Preview to fill in that version as a respondent would.
  3. Select Restore this version. “The form as it is now is saved to the history first”, so a restore can always be undone by restoring that copy.

If restoring would remove questions that already have answers, you’re warned. Those answers stay in existing responses, but the questions are no longer on the form.

Restoring changes the draft. If the form is published, select Publish to put the restored version live.

Restore and Save are locked for a moment while your latest edits are still saving.
