Build your first form
This walk-through builds a simple event registration form: name, email, a choice of session and a comments box. It takes about five minutes and covers the steps you’ll use for every form.
1. Start a new form
Section titled “1. Start a new form”-
Select Create form in the sidebar, or Create form on the Dashboard or Forms page.
-
Choose which team will own this form. Teams decide who can edit the form and see its responses. If you’re the only person in the organization, keep the default.
-
Choose a creation method. Every option opens the same builder when it’s done:
Method When to use it Draft with AI Describe the form and chat with the AI assistant to refine the draft before creating it. See Create and edit forms with AI. Start from scratch A clean canvas. Use this for the walk-through. Use a template Start from a ready-made system template or one your organization saved. Import JSON Bring in a form exported from KyraForm or written by hand. It needs a top-level fieldsarray, and Download example shows the format. -
Type of form. Pick what the form is for. This changes which settings and reports you get:
Type Use it for Adds Collect answers Registrations, applications, requests, contact forms Standard responses table and results Poll or vote Elections, quick polls Vote counting, duplicate-vote prevention, live results Quiz or assessment Tests, certifications, training checks Correct answers, points, pass mark, scorecard, leaderboard Survey Feedback, NPS, research Survey question types, anonymity options, survey report You can change the type later under Type of form in the builder’s Form setup panel.
-
Give the form a name (for example Workshop registration) and, if you like, a Description. The name is how you find the form in your workspace, and it becomes the default public title.
-
Select Create new form. The builder opens.
2. Add your questions
Section titled “2. Add your questions”The builder opens on the Canvas, with the form title and description at the top.
-
Select Add (or Start with your first question on an empty form). The Add a question picker opens.
-
Type in Search question types… to filter, or browse the groups: Basic, Choice, Date & time, Upload & sign and More (plus Survey on survey forms). Press Enter to add the first match.
-
Add these four questions:
Question Type Settings Full name Text Input Turn on Required Email address Email Turn on Required Which session will you attend? Radio Buttons Options: Morning, Afternoon Anything we should know? Long Text Leave optional -
For each question, type the text in Field label. To add options to a choice question, select Add option, or paste a list with Bulk import (CSV).
-
Select Done to close a question. The card collapses and shows a one-line summary of its rules.
Drag the handle on a card to reorder questions. Use Duplicate to copy one, or Delete to remove it. See Adding and editing questions for every option.
3. Preview it
Section titled “3. Preview it”Select Preview at the top of the builder to fill in the form exactly as respondents will. Conditions, validation and calculations all run in the preview, but nothing is saved as a response. Go back with Canvas.
4. Check the settings
Section titled “4. Check the settings”Select Settings to see the Overview of every setting. For a first form the defaults are fine. The ones people most often change:
- Availability: open and close dates, and a response limit. See Availability.
- After submission: the thank-you page or a redirect. See After submission.
- Appearance: theme, logo, header and footer.
5. Publish
Section titled “5. Publish”- Select Publish. KyraForm runs a quick check first and lists anything that would break the form or confuse respondents. See The publish check.
- Fix anything marked Blocking. For warnings you can Skip, or select Publish without changing this.
- Confirm. You see Form Published! with the link, plus View Form and Embed, QR code and pre-filled links.
You never need to press Save. The builder saves your draft about a second after each change, and the status next to the title says All changes saved. After a form is published, further edits are saved but not live until you select Publish again. The status shows Published · unpublished changes until you do.
